From September 13 to October 7, 2023 from 8pm to 11pm at Maison Nivard-De Saint-Dizier, museum and archaeological site, come and discover Leilani & Teo's projection mapping work 𝐻𝑎𝑟𝑣𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐺𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠.

𝐻𝑎𝑟𝑣𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐺𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 is an ode to Haudenosaunee way of life and a celebration of the original stewards of the land. By sharing traditions, songs, and deep connection with nature, the projection mapping project aims to foster appreciation, understanding, and respect for Indigenous cultures. It serves as a reminder that the wisdom passed down through generations is invaluable, and it is our collective responsibility to honor and preserve it for the generations to come.

▪Leilani Shaw is Mohawk of Kahnawà:ke and a member of the Turtle clan. Her work is a contemporary take on traditional Mohawk and Haudenosaunee tales, giving new life to legends handed down for hundreds of years. Using aspects of surrealism, she integrates the details and meanings of the legends into works of art for all to enjoy.

▪TEO is a multidisciplinary visual artist, originally from Toulouse and now based in Montreal. His style is defined through dynamic, benevolent creations linking exaggerated characters and abstract landscapes. Through muralism, projection mapping and installation, TEO turns public space into a real playground for exploration.

This project was made possible with the financial support of the Gouvernement du Québec and the Ville de Montréal as part of the Entente de développement culturel de Montréal.

MAPP_MTL 2023 Festival

MAPP_MTL, Montreal's international projection mapping festival, will be back for its 8th edition from September 27 to 30, 2023: A friendly and creative digital festival!

A half-day workshop that will take you from beginner to expert with code-free 3D creation tools and augmented reality powered by ELYSIUM!

Learn together in a hands-on, collaborative workshop to create interactive augmented reality worlds that will be exhibited in Mila spaces as part of the MAPP festival.

You'll learn how to use artificial intelligence (AI) in the creation of 3D digital content and how to personalize that content in the real world, creating your own persistent interactive augmented reality (AR) experiences.

Workshop OBJECTIVES:
-Learn more about augmented reality and spatial computing
Introduction to a new type of code-free production pipeline for building persistent augmented reality worlds with ELYSIUM.
Design and plan a location-based interactive experience at Mila.
-Create original content and build an interactive augmented reality experience on site to be shared and presented as part of MAPP_PRO.

-MODERATOR: Jenny Thibaut - Society for Arts and Technology (SAT)
After studying cinema and anthropology, Jenny quickly branched out into cultural event production. She worked on a number of Quebec festivals before co-founding the award-winning FME in 2003 in her hometown, an event she has grown with over the years.  In 2004, she joined the NFB in project marketing, where she contributed to the growth and international influence of the first interactive works and installations and its dedicated studios. In 2017, she took the helm of RPM, which became Xn Québec under her leadership. In less than 5 years, she has strategically repositioned this association to federate and represent the entire Quebec digital creativity sector. Since 2021, she has been General Manager of the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT), a mandate in line with her career path.

-Gonzalo Soldi - Co-founder and Creative Director Mirari
With his eclectic background, Gonzalo has always been interested in luminous and tangible mediums of expression. His approach began with his architectural studies in Peru, which he left in 2003 to settle in Montreal and further his work on sensitivity and perception in the performing arts. Whether as performer or designer, he has been collaborating on the creation of circus, theater and dance shows for the past ten years. With the founding of Mirari in 2015, he is committed to making culture accessible to as many people as possible by taking the performing arts out of their box. He has since been exploring public art installations and augmented scenography for large-scale events.

-Marie-Odile Melançon is currently Head of the Cultural Development Support Division at the Ville de Montréal. 
With the Service de la culture for over twenty years, she has held a variety of positions and worked on a number of files, including the maisons de la culture network, cultural mediation, inclusion and diversity, cultural statistics and indicators, and cultural vitality in neighbourhoods. She holds a master's degree in urban studies from the Institut national de recherche scientifique du Québec, and has participated in a number of studies, notably on cultural citizenship, cultural recreation, governance issues in cultural neighbourhoods, as well as various partnerships and strategic planning to support the city's interventions in support of cultural development throughout Montreal.

-Martin Laviolette is a dynamic entrepreneur who has participated in the creation of several organizations and projects of significance to his community in the fields of culture, technological arts, tourism and sustainable and social development.

His sense of innovation, entrepreneurial vision and leadership have led him to bring to fruition mobilizing and unifying projects in the cultural, municipal and corporate milieus. These include the 19 editions of the FestiBlues International de Montréal, then Montréal en Histoires, for which he is responsible for the organization's deployment and general management, as well as the production of Cité Mémoire, a series of projections presenting the history of Montreal. 

Martin Laviolette is also the founder of the ideation and production agency H2Emotion. Every day, he applies his experience in consultation, partnership and fund-raising to his varied mandates, helping to bring small and large ideas to fruition.

-Pierre-Olivier Bontems, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Manager
After simultaneously paving his way as an elite athlete (Canadian fencing champion and international referee), an engineer-consultant working in the fields of bioeconomy, sustainable development and open innovation (EnVertis and Natural Resources Canada), and co-founder of a start-up providing educational services and international training (Global Fencing Masters), Pierre-Olivier Bontems is now mobilizing all his know-how to the benefit of the growth of high-impact projects in Quebec's innovation ecosystem.

As head of incubation at Zú, he draws his motivation from accompanying dozens of talented entrepreneurs in achieving their goals, supporting the development of their services, products or technological solutions through all stages of the startup life cycle.

We are delighted to announce that the MAPP_MTL 2023 festival will present YOSHIROTTEN's 𝘚𝘖𝘓𝘌𝘐𝘓 (𝘚𝘜𝘕) in the Quartier des spectacles, a first in Canada, thanks to the support of the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan! 

𝘚𝘖𝘓𝘌𝘐𝘓 (𝘚𝘜𝘕) is a representative work by YOSHIROTTEN, an artist and art director whose activities span art, design and music in Japan and around the world. It consists of 365 images of the silver sun reflecting the colors of its surroundings, drawn day by day during the year of the pandemic. Colored by hand, with digital tools rather than automatically generated, each "SUN" has a different, unique feel: a blend of sci-fi worldview and universality, expressing the transition of things and seasons. Each "SUN" can be interpreted as a view or a time that exists only at that moment.

PRESENTER: Denis Akzam is an engineer by training (Poly MTL) and a seasoned technology professional. He has solid management experience acquired over a career spanning more than 25 years in the fields of engineering and innovation, project financing for business creation and development, and intellectual property (IP) management. He has held development and management positions in large-scale companies, as well as in innovative "Deeptech" companies.

Mr. Akzam is co-founder and Managing Director of P4BUS Systems, a design, print and manufacturing company since 2014, actively involved in standardization processes and the handling of IP and traceability issues related to images, designs and models. As well as in the post-quantum protection of design and manufacturing data associated with all types of objects (mathematical, physical and virtual) and their integrity.

Discover the P4BUS workshop - Better protect, publicize and earn income from your works by choosing the right distribution tools and avoiding certain pitfalls.

In collaboration with Mila - Institut québécois d'intelligence artificielle, come and listen to Simon Demeule, researcher in deep learning at Mila, Julien Coll, interim co-director of the Centre de développement et de recherche en intelligence numérique - CDRIN, Alex Boya, digital visual artist at the NFB, and Patrice Puiberneau, professor of imaging at École NAD - UQAC. Moderated by none other than Pia Baltazar, philosopher and Research Director of the Société des Arts Technologiques, we will reflect on "Augmented Creation: How AI is profoundly transforming digital artistic expression, tools and perception".

MODERATOR 
-Pia Baltazar is an intermedia composer and SAT's new Director of Research. With a triple background in engineering, art philosophy and musical composition, her artistic and technological research approach has been developing for over twenty years at the intersection of interactive design and artistic production. Passionate about the development of open source digital tools for intermedia creation, she has been coordinating the ossia.io initiative for over fifteen years. Through the development of these tools, she is particularly interested in the question of temporal writing, interaction and intermedia orchestration. More generally, her research interests focus on the expressive possibilities of intersensoriality and the embodied character of the creative process. With this in mind, his long-term research program for SAT is aimed at producing collaborative tools for immersive and collective artistic creation, particularly in telepresence.

-Alex Boya, having worked for a decade with the NFB's English Animation Program and Interactive Studio as director, researcher and consultant, is an expert in "Genomic Expressionism". His innovative method of animation, called "reverse data collection", fuses hand-drawn drawings and data-driven processes to visualize the genome of human expression in the artistic pursuit of meaningful representations. Through depth-aware interpolation, Boya facilitates a coevolution between hand-drawn sketches and AI algorithms, pushing the boundaries of AI-guided art and promoting human-machine interaction. His expertise in mentoring budding filmmakers, supporting interdisciplinary projects and amplifying understanding of animation and immersive media fuels his recent exploration of ethical generative AI in the creative arts and applications.

-Patrice Puiberneau has been a director of photography and lighting designer for over 30 years. A graduate of École NAD-UQAC, specializing in Digital Image Composition, he has been teaching there since 2018. Patrice received the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) Award of Excellence with the Université du Québec in 2002. From an early age, he was fascinated by photography, light and space. Attracted by technology, he developed a passion for digital imaging in the early 1990s with Alias and 3ds Max software. Cameraman then DOP at Radio-Canada, he captures images for several productions, including the documentary series *Découvertes*. As a journalist-cameraman, he covered news for NBC, CBC, CTV, Bell Media and Reuters (among others). At NAD, he perfects creative techniques with AI to develop innovative visual concepts and techniques with this creative medium.

-Julien Coll: After a bachelor's degree in audio-visual studies and 7 years as a technical artist in the games and animation industry, Julien joined CDRIN to push his curiosity further. He held a position as Research and Innovation Advisor, which enabled him to keep in touch with innovations in the sector and help the industry push its boundaries. He now holds the position of interim co-CEO. He is involved in a number of initiatives in the entertainment sector, including the Siggraph Montreal chapter, events such as MIGS and CAFÉ, and entertainment innovation committees.

-Simon Demeule is an interdisciplinary artist and master's student in artificial intelligence at Mila, Université de Montréal. He has a background in interactive arts and music, and also pursued a bachelor's degree in computer science applied to the arts at Concordia University. His work has been shown and awarded both here and abroad, at the Mozilla Festival 2021 in Amsterdam, the MURAL Festival 2022 in Montreal, and the Watersprite Film Festival 2023 in Cambridge, UK. Iel is particularly interested in how AI intersects with art, both in the way it challenges our conception of art and creativity, and in the way this technology enables us to create new artistic experiences.

ANIMATOR: Geneviève-Anaïs Proulx plunged headfirst into a varied professional life as soon as she obtained her master's degree in art history. She has accumulated a wealth of experience in education: trainer at RBC, French as a second language teacher and professor of public art history at the ITHQ. She continued her career at Pearson ERPI, a publishing house specializing in educational products. As an editorial project manager for colleges and universities, she developed a flair for educational design. In 2019, she publishes her first novel, Troies, with Éditions Quai numéro 5. Since 2021, Geneviève-Anaïs has been working at Moment Factory, where she was first an instructional designer, then director of École MF, Moment Factory's training and professional development department.

Discover MAPP_PRO's workshop: Vision and confetti: How to stand out according to Moment Factory - September 28, 2pm to 3pm

In digital creativity, there are very few projects where we are alone in the process, due to the nature of the technologies and skills required. So how can we perform well individually, but especially as a team? How can a creative context lend itself to our skills? 

Moderated by Alexandra Marin, Research and Development Manager at the Société des Arts Technologiques, this discussion will feature Nelly-Eve Rajotte, Professor at UQÀM's École de Design, Anne Le Bouyonnec, Project Director for digital creation expertise and trades at Synthèse, Billy Roussel, Talent Acquisition Specialist at Moment Factory and Claude G Théorêt, Founder and CEO of X Machina-AI.  

-MODERATOR: Alexandra Marin, Society for Arts and Technology (SAT)
With a Master's degree in Project Management, Alexandra has been working in the arts and culture sector for several years, directing technological innovation projects with a social and artistic impact. She has worked for Radio-Canada and the MUTEK digital creativity festival in Montreal. She is currently R&D Services Manager at the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT), where she works on research and development projects in partnership with several organizations around the themes of collective immersion and the hybridization of physical and virtual spaces.

-Nelly-Ève Rajotte - Professor at UQAM's School of Design, where she heads the Moving Image and Sound Design Department. A visual and media artist, her hybrid practice focuses on the moving image, sound and immersion - through performance and installation. She is also a director, editor and composer. In 2017, she was President of the Jury (Digital Creation) for the Jeux de la Francophonie in Abidjan. She was also visiting professor and artist-in-residence at the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University (2018-2020). In addition to numerous exhibitions in Quebec with, among others, the Darling Foundry, Parisian Laundry, Occurrence, Clark, Optica and Circa, her work has been shown at several international festivals, including MUTEK, FIFA, Mois Multi and Espace [IM]...

-At SYNTHÈSE, Albane Français acts as Director of Communications and Partnerships, with the aim of raising the profile of Quebec's digital creative ecosystem and positioning SYNTHÈSE's expertise in the field of training-job matching. 
Albane has been working in the digital creativity industry for 15 years.  She began her career at the NAD-UQAC school, then held various management positions at the URBANIA MEDIA and CREO production studios.  
She also sits on the board of iScola, an organization dedicated to equipping and training teachers in the use of ICT. Since September 2023, Albane has joined the organizing committee of the Mois Numérique Jeunesse, orchestrated by Printemps numérique, aimed at raising awareness of digital opportunities among young people under 35.
Thanks to her varied experience, she has a good understanding of the issues and future challenges linked to the digital creativity sector.

-Billy Roussel - Moment Factory Talent Acquisition Specialist.
Billy has been working in the tech world for 6 years, currently at the crossroads of technology and art. With a diverse background that includes a B.A. in film studies, 10 years' experience in the service and sales industry and 7 years in recruitment, Billy has always been in touch with the public. She uses her diverse experiences and keen interest in people to help candidates find their X at Moment Factory, where she has been working as a Talent Acquisition Specialist for 2 years now.

-Claude Théoret, founder and CEO of X Machina-AI, is a former astrophysicist.  He previously founded Nexalogy, one of Montreal's first AI companies. He has played an active role in the birth and growth of Quebec's startup ecosystem.

DIGITAL BLOCK PARTY | MAPP_MTL 2023 FESTIVAL

From September 28 to 30, the Digital Block Party returns for its 8th edition! A festive program of projection mapping, electronic music performances, food stalls and local merchants in a neighborhood party atmosphere!

MAPP is looking for a project coordinator who is new to the city or a first-generation immigrant, looking to integrate into Montreal's professional milieu at the intersection of arts and technology.

MAPP_MTL is looking for an intern to help us with the cultural and social enrichment of the impact our festival can have on the Montreal region. The intern will provide organizational, communicative and logistical support to MAPP_MTL and contribute to the growth of our professional relationships formed over the 8 years of MAPP_MTL's existence. 

By assisting MAPP_MTL's administrative core while expanding its collaborative horizons, this internship will facilitate significant symbiotic growth between the artists, cultural organizations and patrons with whom MAPP_MTL has already or will be forging ties. This is an excellent professional development opportunity for a passionate and determined individual who has adopted Montreal as their new home; it's also a great chance to increase the chances of the artistic and cultural serendipities that give Montreal its international reputation.

The intern's main duties will be to :

-Follow all stages of MAPP_MTL's cultural projects and activities
-Communicate with arts professionals, at their discretion, within the framework of MAPP_MTL's mandate, for the pre-existing objectives of MAPP_MTL's administration, for MAPP_MTL's marketing and development objectives, and for the intern's own interests in expanding their professional network in Montreal.
-Coordinate, between MAPP_MTL and all relevant partners and collaborators, the logistical production of various events throughout the year to ensure their success, making good use of their experiential knowledge of event coordination, as well as the knowledge passed on to them by MAPP_MTL members.
-Research and develop new avenues of artistic collaboration that MAPP_MTL had not previously considered or been able to pursue, by applying its innovative mentality and culturally diverse perspective, not only to broaden the potential social impact of MAPP_MTL's activities, but also to exhilarate all its collaborators in order to generate a positive chain reaction throughout Montreal's cultural arts and technology milieu.
-Software management and configuration (mainly ticketing)
-Coordinate the technical needs and practices of artists & partners
-Help ensure the smooth running of events on site in Montreal.

Known for her energetic DJ sets, her selections go way beyond the standard “dance du jour” flavors with some unexpected musical curveballs. You can often catch her perform at clubs in Montreal like Stereo, Datcha, SAT and Système as well as some festivals, notably Piknic Electronik and Igloofest. She is also a co-founder of Shift Radio; a community web radio operating out of Montreal.

From September 29, 2023 to March 16, 2024 at Age of Union. A work by Mélanie O'Bomsawin "Là où se pose la lumière"

"Là où se pose la lumière" is a series of micro-projections on stone exploring the persistence of memory in the form of light. For the W8banakiak (Abenaki) people, stones are the bearers of memory, enabling us to perceive the stories of those who were there before, and pass them on to future generations. In the exhibition, the use of light reveals and illuminates the richness hidden in the mineral memory of the stones collected by the artist, while allowing us to reflect on our relationship with the environment.

Publisher, new media artist, tinkerer, geek and video artist, Mélanie O'Bomsawin (elle) works with video in all its forms. Through installations, screenings and documentaries, she explores her connection with artists past and those to come. Questions of identity, memory and knowledge transfer are central to her practice. Mélanie is of W8banaki (Abenaki) and Québécois descent, and lives in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyaang/Montréal.

MICRO_MAPP | FESTIVAL MAPP_MTL 2023

From September 29, 2023 to March 16, 2024 at Age of Union. A work by Mélanie O'Bomsawin "Là où se pose la lumière"

As part of the Fête de quartier numérique, SAT and Lab148 will be offering an introductory video-mapping workshop with Slash software, and a creative workshop with TouchDesigner, enabling all levels of knowledge to have fun!

**WORKSHOP - Introduction to video-mapping (September 29-30)**
Video-mapping, also known as projection-mapping or illusionist projection, is a way of augmenting physical surfaces with projected visual content. 

In this SAT x MAPP x Lab148 workshop, we'll be using the Splash open-source software developed by Metalab, SAT's research laboratory, and the Lab148 cooperative, to explain and illustrate the principles of video-mapping, from calibrating projectors with the projection surface to adapting content to it.

Aimed at beginners, the workshop will take place in 20-minute sessions, during which we'll go through all the steps involved in setting up a miniature video-mapping installation, projected onto a model of the Van Horne skatepark.

-16 participants per evening
-September 29 - 30, 7pm-9pm
-Participants must be available from 7pm to 9pm.
-Participants will receive a schedule and details of the event once registration is complete.
-No materials are required for this workshop
-Participation in the workshop gives free access to the Digital Block Party site as part of the MAPP festival.

**CREATION - TouchDesigner Jam (September 29)**

SAT invites you to take part in the SAT x MAPP x Lab148 Ateliers de création - TouchDesigner Jam to animate surfaces at the Van Horne Skatepark as part of the MAPP Montréal 2023 festival. Participants are invited to bring their creations or do some live coding with TouchDesigner software to create visuals that will animate a space on the site.

Registered participants can prepare their TouchDesigner projects in advance or create them on site, so that all video formats can be adapted on site with the help of a SAT team.

To take part in the workshop, participants should bring their laptop with an Ethernet port and TouchDesigner installed, and should have a basic knowledge of the software.

-This workshop can accommodate a maximum of 12 participants.
-The workshops take place on September 29 between 8pm and 10pm.
-Participants must be available from 8pm to 10pm.
-Participants will receive a schedule and details of the event once registration is complete.
-Participation in the workshop gives free access to the Digital Block Party site as part of the MAPP festival.

Ellxandra is a Montreal-based singer, DJ and producer. Always evolving but firmly rooted, she approaches musical selection with enthusiasm and dedication to groove. Her sets take you on a journey through the spectrum of human emotions, moving between the mercurial and the ecstatic, always with a touch of swing.

8pm - 10pm Ramzilla & Aram
Phoebé Guillemot (Montreal, Quebec) is a composer, sound designer and visual artist. Her solo music project Ramzilla, born in 2012, fuses sound environments, electronic and acoustic instruments. Over the course of 10 albums, Ramzilla has evolved as a fictional character, taking the form of a forest spirit-animal, guardian of a parallel ecosystem emerging from the interplay of nature and technology, nostalgia and futurism, and a musical fusion of genres.
