"La ville dans la ville" (The City Within the City) is an audiovisual work that explores the geometry of urban architecture as a raw material for creation in order to generate colorful and surreal landscapes. Relying on a database of 3D city models, the work is partially modular: in practice, it can generate its structures from simple Cartesian coordinates. The visual component of the work is accompanied by a soundscape designed from recordings made within the city itself, strengthening the link between the real space and its digital reinterpretation.
By diverting urban data from its primary function, the work offers a new reading of the city, where architecture ceases to be a mere living environment and becomes a malleable, contemplative material. Buildings are transformed into abstract reliefs, streets into geometric patterns, and everyday sounds into a minimalist soundtrack that invites us to slow down our gaze and listening.
