Unlike other residencies, where the final day is open to the public to showcase the work developed, Henry Richa invites you to Caserne 26 from day one! Community is an essential part of his practice, and he would love to have other people's perspectives during the creative process. Everyone is welcome, whether you are part of the art world or not. He would love to get to know you, talk, laugh, and share. The residency takes the form of an open studio, where he will continue to develop his project, "i <3 my computer". You can pop in, say hello, and leave, or stay to observe, draw, read, or chat. It is as much your space as it is his. As with any residency, he will present a wrap-up of his project on his final day in the form of a performance!
As for "i <3 my computer", it is a research-creation project in which he recontextualizes the relationship between humans and cybertechnologies. In the current era, where cyberspace is largely perceived as a site of human extinction, he challenges this popular opinion by viewing these spaces as vital new ecosystems for the human condition. His study explores practices that allow the body to submit to technology rather than resist it. This grants access to other transformative states. In his approach, he is interested in the transformation toward a more present self and the establishment of a shared identity.
