What if code became an instrument? With Live 4 Bubbles, Christophe Lengelé transforms the practice of live coding — traditionally limited to the keyboard — into a gestural and immersive performance: sounds circulate around the audience across multiple speakers, generative visuals react to the music, and the projected code is played live using controllers.
The system relies exclusively on free and open-source tools (Tidal Cycles, SuperCollider, Hydra): the transparency of the creative process — including algorithms, gestures, hesitations, and mistakes — is part of the show. Anyone can make these tools their own: their installation is demanding — involving numerous networked software programs — and mastering them requires practice, just like any instrument, but the path is entirely open and documented.
After a 20-minute performance, the audience is invited to get their hands on the interfaces: to touch, transform, and play. No prerequisites required, just curiosity.
